Date Mistake ~ A Holiday Special

"Phew." Kit sighed pushing back from her desk, "I'm glad I'm finished my homework! It's kind of weird that our teacher would give us a random day off like this, without a holiday or anything!"

She stood up and looked around the room.

"Now that I'm done, what should I do?"

"I know! I'll go visit the other girls!" Kit said, and skipped off toward their room.

As she walked into the room she was hit by a wall of noise.

"Hi, Guys!" She greeted cheerily, but she was pretty sure no one heard her over the other noise.

Charlie was carrying a stack of plates that clinked and clattered as she ran around the table.

Claire, who was sitting at her desk, had her computer on her lap and was holding her constantly ringing cell phone.

Calls, texts, and emails seemed to be coming in steady.

Taryn was standing by a long table that was covered with food.

She seemed to be trying to keep the animals away from all it. Problem was there were so many pets that when she blocked one  another would jump up.

"Hmm. I wonder what's going on?" Kit said to herself.

"This looks like a job for me! Kit Kittredge the reporter!"

"Hey Charlie!" Kit shouted as she walked up to her.
Charlie jumped as Kit tapped her shoulder.

When Charlie jumped, she also let go of the plates. Kit covered her eyes and Charlie cried 'NO!' as they fell to the floor.
Thankfully none of them broke.

Charlie gathered up the dishes as she said "Not now, Kit. I'm busy. We can talk later,"

"I just wanted to know what day it is." Kit said as Charlie walked away.

"I wonder if Claire can help me..." Kit thought.

"Hey, Claire." Kit said, "Do you know what to-"

Claire looked past Kit and shouted "Charlie, put another plate on! Uncle Rob is coming!"

"Got it!" Charlie answered, putting down another plate on the table.

"Um, never mind." Kit said.

She then walked over to the food table. "Hi, Taryn."

Taryn turned away from Boulder and tried to grab Fox.
"Bad kitty!" She shouted.

But the second Taryn turned around, Boulder sneaked behind her.

"Um, Taryn?" Kit said, pointing at the dog.

"What do you want, Kit?!" Taryn snapped at her.

"Never mind." Kit said forlornly.

She looked around the room in frustration.
It seemed like no one could even see her.
Then a thought came to her.
"They said they can't talk to me until their done..." Kit thought out loud.

"Well, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!"

Kit slid over to the food table and grabbed Jack.

"Seriously, Boulder?!" Taryn cried, as the dog danced around the table.

Finally the two girls got all the pets outside.
"Phew. Thanks for the help Kit!" Taryn panted.
But Kit didn't take much of a break, she was back in action a few seconds later!

Next Kit ran over to Claire.

Kit grabbed Claire's laptop and began answering emails.
Most of the emails said either 'We're coming.' or 'We can't come."

"Be careful with that!" Claire said, "Oh, and thanks."

Two hours Later...

"Well, that took a while, but at lease we're done." Kit said, "Oh, and by the way-"

Kit was interrupted by Claire.
"So with all those calls and emails and stuff, I lost count. How many people are coming?"

"Well," Charlie started slowly, "with all the cancellations... just us four."

"Really."

"Only four of us for what?" Kit asked again.

"Well, that's a good thing because the pets ate a lot of food. I don't know if there would have been enough food for more than four people!" Taryn said.

"What is all the food for?!" Kit said, exasperatedly.
Everyone continued talking.

"WHAT IS TODAY!" Kit shouted.

"Why, Kit. Don't you know today is Thanksgiving Day?" Charlie said.

"But I thought Thanksgiving was in November." Kit said in confusion.

"If you're in America." Claire answered.

"Oops. Silly me."

All the girls went through the buffet and ate their lunch.

After they were finished eating, Charlie suggested, "Let's take turns saying what we're thankful for! I'm thankful for time to spend with you guys!"

"I'm thankful for my awesome volleyball team!" Taryn said happily.

"Um- ahh, I guess I'm thankful for the food we just ate?" Claire said, like it was a question.

"I'm thankful for the gift Claire gave me." Kit giggled.

"Gift?" Taryn asked, looking quizzically at Claire.

"What is it, Kit?" Charlie asked.

"A calendar." Kit answered.
