1930's ~ A Photo Story Series ~ Part 4

It was the next day.

We still hadn't told Kit...

"Do you remember what to say?" I asked Taryn.
We were getting read to break the news to Kit.
But how do you politely tell someone that you brought them 80 years into the future.

"Um, I think so." Taryn answered hesitantly.

"Hey, Kit?" I called, "I need to ask you a question."

"Sure!" Kit said, "What do you need?"

"Well, we were wondering um, ah..." I stuttered. I wasn't sure how to say it.

"What year is it?" Taryn asked quickly.

"Well, that's easy." Kit giggled, "It's 1934."

Taryn and I looked at each other grimly.

"No, Kit." I said gently, "It's 2017."

"What?" Kit asked as she stopped giggling, "How is that possible?"

"It was an accident and I didn't mean to but I used my time machine and I didn't think it worked but I guess it did and it brought you here into the future from the 1930's and... and... I'm so so so so sorry.  Taryn said as the words spilled out.

Kit turned her face away and when she spoke, her voice was heavy with emotion.

"So this is 2017?" she whispered.

"And I'm stuck here?"

"Yes." Taryn answered shakily.

Suddenly Kit pushed past us and ran to the door.

When she reached the door, she flung it and ran outside.

"We have to go after her!" I exclaimed as I ran to the door.

"No." Taryn said quietly, "I'll go. This is my mess so I have to fix it."

Kit's POV

I raced across the lawn. I wasn't sure were I was going, but I kept running.

I could feel the tears on my cheeks but I didn't care.
Where would I go now?
I ran on. I didn't know where I was going, but I kept running.

Finally I came to a tree and slumped down beside it.
Then my tears began to roll freely down my face, wetting my cheeks.

'What will happen to me now?' I thought.
I felt somebody sit down beside me but I didn't look to see who it was.

After she began to speak I could tell it was Taryn and, I could hear a quaver in her voice.
"Kit, I am so so so sorry. I didn't think my time machine would really work, but because I was silly and didn't think you don't get to finish the life you had."

As she paused to take a breath I interrupted.
"Don't care about what I left back there except my routine! I don't even want to remember what was back there!"

"What?" Taryn asked in surprise.

I took a deep breath.
"Five years ago my mom and dad died in an accident at work. I was alone with no friends or family so I lived on the street to beg for food, but begging in the 30's isn't so...profitable. That's why when I grow up I want to run a restaurant. So no one every has to be hungry again. But now I'm here and back where I started, with no friends no family and no where to live!"

"Kit, Charlie and I are your friends." Taryn said, taking my hand."I'm so sure that if we ask The Human, she'll adopt you! Then you would never have to worry about being hungry again!"

"Really?" I asked hopefully.
"Of course!" Taryn exclaimed.

We stood up and gave each other a hug.
"Now," Taryn said,"Let's go get you a home!"
